Fajitas In Aiy Fryer
Equipment
- Air Fryer
- Air Fryer Basket Liner
Ingredients
- 3 skinless chicken breasts. They should be cut into strips
- 1 red pepper It should be sliced with the seeds removed.
- 1 yellow pepper It should be sliced with the seeds removed.
- 1 red chili It should be sliced with the seeds removed.
- 1 red onion Sliced thinly
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tsp olive oil You can substitute it with any neutral oil.
- 1 tsp garlic granules
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp Cajun seasoning You can change the seasoning, depending on taste preferences
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- Salt to taste
Prepare the following ingredients for the serving
- 4 tortilla wraps They should be warm while assembling the ingredients
- 7 oz guacamole
- 8 tsp sour cream
- Fajita seasoning
Instructions
- Start off by preheating the air fryer at 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.
- Place the bell peppers and onions in a bowl and drizzle 2 tsp of olive oil over it. Season it with salt and pepper to taste and stir everything until the vegetables are properly coated.
- Now, take another bowl, combine your chicken and chili, and drizzle the vegetable oil over it. Sprinkle the vegetable sauce, pepper, salt, and fajita seasoning and combine everything well using your hands. Make sure all chicken pieces are coated with the seasoning.
- Add chicken to the air fryer and cook it for 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. Shake the air fryer basket twice during this time.
- Once the chicken is done, it is time to make wraps. Warm the wraps and lay them on the serving plate.
- Divide the mixture among the wraps and top it off with the prepared vegetables. Finish it off with sour cream and guacamole, cut in half, and enjoy the hot fajitas.
Notes
- You can toast the tortillas in the air fryer, but it is not necessary. Just put the filled wraps in the air fryer and cook it for 5 minutes. I really like this extra crispy texture in the wraps.
- While toasting the wraps or cooking chicken, do not overfill the air fryer. It can leave the food undercooked. What’s better is that you work in batches.
- You may also sauté the vegetables or simply put them in the air fryer with the chicken to get a softer texture. It can smooth the filling of the fajitas.
Nutritional Value of Chicken Fajitas
Chicken fajitas are not only delicious but have a low-calorie count in comparison with chicken deep-fried. A single serving of these chicken fajitas has 184 calories, 6g ft, 17g carbs, and 15g protein.
Can I Replace Chicken Breast for the Recipe?
Yes, you can substitute the chicken breasts with any boneless meat, depending on taste preferences or availability. I like to substitute it with 1 lb or sirloin steak. That said, I have not yet tried this recipe with chicken thighs, as it can be hard to get the meat into strips, though I am sure it will work just fine.
Some Recipe Variations
It’s always better to adjust the recipe each time you make fajitas in the air fryer. Here are some of the variations you might find helpful.
- Substitute the chicken with tofu strips if you are a vegetarian. The rest of the recipe will be the same.
- If you prefer a gluten-free recipe, go for gluten-free toppings and tortilla wraps. The rest is naturally based on gluten-free ingredients.
- Chop and air fry jalapenos, bell pepper, chili, and red onions with the chicken to add spicy flavors to the fajitas.
- Once the chicken and vegetables are cooked, top them off with grated parmesan to get a cheesy taste.
Try Fajita Bowls
For a lighter chicken fajita as a snack, you can create a fajita bowl. Just cook vegetables and chicken the way I have discussed over and serve them in a bowl. Top them off with quinoa, shredded lettuce, oats, and other healthy ingredients to make the bowl nutritious.
Have You Tried It Already?
Try the classic fajitas or fajita bowl, and you won’t be disappointed. The recipe is simple, and even a person with no cooking expertise can make these fajitas. So, give them a shot.
