Cooking naan bread in an air fryer is a little lengthy, especially if you are cooking it from scratch. The reason is that yeast is used in this process and it takes some time to activate. Other than that, the dough can not be used immediately after kneading as it needs at least a day to set up.
But, nevertheless, the process is very simple and you don’t even need any specialized equipment for it either. The ingredients required for this recipe are easily available in all kitchens. For further details, keep reading down below.

- 2 Large bowls
- Electric/hand beater
- Stand mixer (If you have it)
- Bread roller plate (If you have it)
- Air Fryer
- Silicon Brush
- Plate/hotpot
Ingredients
- 300 ml Milk
- 7 g Dried yeast
- 2 tbsp Sugar
- 3 Eggs
- 300 ml Greek yogurt
- 900 g Plain white flour plus more for kneading and dusting
- 1 tbsp Salt
- 1 tbsp Baking powder
- 3 tbsp Melted butter or ghee (optional)
Instructions
- The most time-consuming part of this recipe is the preparation of the yeast milk. So, it is better to get it done first so that you can handle other things while the milk gets ready for use.So, to begin with, simply take a microwave-friendly jug and add 300ml (1 and 1/4 cups) milk, 7g (1 tablespoon) dried yeast, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Microwave the contents for about a minute to let it get hot. The milk should feel too hot to touch so in order to activate that, you might also want to microwave the milk for another thirty seconds! After that, cover the jug with a dark cloth and store it in a damp, warm, and dark place. These environmental conditions are ideal for the yeast to awaken and spread quickly, Hence, within thirty to sixty minutes, your milk will be ready!
- Meanwhile, take a large bowl and crack three eggs into it. Whisk the eggs using an electric beater if you have it, however, in case you do not have an electric beater, you would also use a hand beater.Keep whisking until the eggs start to bubble up then add 300ml (1 1/4 cup) Greek yogurt into the eggs. Mix the contents well until it becomes smooth. After that, set the mixture aside until the yeast milk is ready. The milk will become frothy which is an indication that you can now use the milk. Pour the milk into the egg mixture and mix the contents together.
- Now, take another bowl and add 900g plain white flour, 1 tablespoon salt, and 1 tablespoon baking powder to it. Mix the contents to spread everything evenly. Then add half of this dry mixture to the egg mixture and start kneading.Keep kneading and adding more flour mixture to it to harden the dough. Mind you that if you add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, the dough might turn out to be harder than necessary. So, it is always better to stay on the safe side and keep adding the dry mixture to the wet one until you get the desired consistency. You can knead the dough with your hands or use a stand mixer if you have it. The mixture will feel too sticky and gooey in the beginning but as you add the dry mixture to it, it will start to solidify. You would only need to knead the dough for about five minutes after which you should roll the dough into a ball and place it into a bowl. Cover it up using a plastic sheet and leave it overnight.
- After a day, the dough will rise up and you will need to knead it for another five minutes to set it up and get the bubbles out. Then divide the dough into ten smaller portions and roll each portion into a small plain ball using your hands and fingers.
- Now, set your air fryer to preheat at 180°C/400°F. In the meantime, sprinkle some dry flour over a flat kitchen shelf or bread roller plate (if you have it) and place one dough sphere in the middle of it. Then, start rolling the dough using the dough roller until it spreads to a size suitable for your air fryer basket.
- Use a silicone brush to paint some oil on the side of the air fryer basket and put one roller naan into it. Let it cook for three minutes before taking out the basket and flipping the naan. Let it cook for another three minutes before transferring it to a plate or a hotpot.
- Repeat this process for the remaining dough rolls as well. Once done, brush some melted butter over the naans and serve hot!
