Start off the recipe by peeling the apples and chopping them into small pieces.
Put them in a cake tin (air fryer-safe) and sprinkle two tbsp of water on the apples.
Cook them in the air fryer for 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. You will know when the apple chunks soften. Now, you can make apple crumbles directly from the air fryer.
While the apples are in the air fryer, take a bowl and combine butter and flour. Rub the mixture together in your hands in such a way that it creates a consistency of crumbs.
They will look like breadcrumbs at this point. Now, add sugar and ground cinnamon to the crumbs and keep rubbing them in your hands.
If this process sounds difficult, you can use a food processor to get the crumb-like texture. However, in this step, you need to be careful about not over processing the crumbles. You should know to stop when the desired texture is there.
Your apples should be ready at this point. Add the crumble mixture on top of the apples.
Close the air fryer basket and cook the mixture for another 10 minutes. Keep checking the food in between these ten minutes. You need to stop when the crumbles are crispy and golden.
Ta-da, the air fryer air crumbles are ready. Serve them with ice cream or custard and enjoy.
Notes
Though an air fryer is highly recommended for this recipe, you can improvise if you do not have one. Just soften your apples in a pan and water over medium heat.
