First of all, you need to prepare the chicken. So, for that, if you have taken the whole chicken, you would have to cut out extra pieces so that you just have the chicken crown left. Place the chicken on a cutting board and carefully cut out the legs and then the spine of the chicken using a sharp knife.
Now, you may prefer to work with solid butter however, I like to melt it down just so it is easier to grease the chicken. So, if you are using solid butter, simply wear a hand glove and using your hands, rub the butter cube against the chicken so that it gets slathered in butter fully. However, I like to put the butter in a small cup and microwave it for thirty seconds. If it melts the butter then well and good however, if it doesn’t you can microwave it for another thirty seconds. However, make sure that it doesn’t get too hot!
Then pour the melted butter over the chicken and use your hands to spread it evenly across the chicken skin so that it gets fully greased. Make sure to not pour all of the butter in one go. Keep pouring little amounts of butter while using your hands to spread it across the chicken crown.
After that, sprinkle the salt and black pepper over the buttered chicken crown and use your hands to rub it in. In the meantime, set the air fryer to preheat at 180 degrees Celsius.
Now, place the prepped-up chicken crown into the air fryer basket and put ½ lemon, 2 garlic cloves, and some thyme or rosemary whichever you chose, and let it cook for about thirty minutes. After that, take out the basket and flip the chicken crown over. Then replace the basket and let it cook for another thirty-five minutes.
When the timer goes off, turn off the air fryer and take out the basket. Carefully take the cooked chicken crown out of the basket and set it on a platter. Then serve immediately!
