Made with soft apple chunks and butter crumbs, apple crumble is a staple British pudding that tastes better each time. It is a regular in our house, partly because it is one of few recipes that doesn’t need lengthy preparations but excites you like any other fuller dessert. Here is how I prepare apple crumbles in the air fryer; so dive right in for more.

Apple Crumble in Air Fryer
Equipment
- Air Fryer
- Air Fryer Basket Liner
- Food processor
Ingredients
- 1 large apple preferably Bramley
- 250 g plain flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 75 g brown sugar
- 150 g butter
Instructions
- Start off the recipe by peeling the apples and chopping them into small pieces.
- Put them in a cake tin (air fryer-safe) and sprinkle two tbsp of water on the apples.
- Cook them in the air fryer for 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. You will know when the apple chunks soften. Now, you can make apple crumbles directly from the air fryer.
- While the apples are in the air fryer, take a bowl and combine butter and flour. Rub the mixture together in your hands in such a way that it creates a consistency of crumbs.
- They will look like breadcrumbs at this point. Now, add sugar and ground cinnamon to the crumbs and keep rubbing them in your hands.
- If this process sounds difficult, you can use a food processor to get the crumb-like texture. However, in this step, you need to be careful about not over processing the crumbles. You should know to stop when the desired texture is there.
- Your apples should be ready at this point. Add the crumble mixture on top of the apples.
- Close the air fryer basket and cook the mixture for another 10 minutes. Keep checking the food in between these ten minutes. You need to stop when the crumbles are crispy and golden.
- Ta-da, the air fryer air crumbles are ready. Serve them with ice cream or custard and enjoy.

Can I Use Any Type of Apple for this Recipe?
Well, yes; you can use all types of apples, depending on the availability. However, I highly recommend using one or two Bramley apples, peeled and chopped into small chunks. That said, I have tried using Granny Smith apples and there wasn’t much difference in how the crumbles tasted.
Can I Use an Oven for this Apple Crumble Recipe?
Well, this is the most commonly asked question when apple crumbles are discussed. The simplest answer is that yes, you can use the oven for the recipe; but let’s be real, who has the time to preheat the oven and cook it following lengthy preps? Instead, making it in an air fryer is quick and convenient and takes no time.
What to Serve These Apple Crumbles with?
Pair your apple crumbles with blackberry jam or essence to enjoy the classic British flavors. I usually like to serve these apple crumbles with salted caramel sauce, ice cream, thick cream, or custard. The best part of the dessert is that it complements almost everything and even tastes amazing on its own.
Can I Cook Apples Ahead of Time for the Apple Crumbles?
Yes, of course; you can cook the apples in the air fryer or oven the stove a day or two before to save time and effort on the serving day. Just store them in an airtight container or zip-lock bag to prevent the apples from oxidizing. You can always reheat them for 30 seconds in a microwave.
