An air fryer is the most versatile kitchen appliance I have seen that we can use for making Asian foods, Italian cuisines, and European meals. The fryer gets dirtier every time we use it because it is used for almost all kinds of recipes. Majority of the people question how they should clean their air fryers, and whether can they use a dishwasher.
We can use the dishwasher to clean the air fryer but it depends upon the type of fryer you use. There are some air flyers we should wash with our hands while others can be washed in the dishwasher. Washing an air fryer is not as simple as it seems because one needs to be mindful of various factors, including the air fryer model, manual, and machinery.
Air Fryer and Its Components
Whether you use an old model or cook meals in the latest air fryer, all have three major components. When it comes to cleaning an air fryer, we need to focus on how these components work and their compatibility. These are the three major components:
- Air fryer basket: The basket or tray of an air fryer in which you place ingredients is made of composite materials. Companies use aluminum, steel, and non-sticking chemicals to make air fryer baskets.
- Air fryer drawer: The drawer of an air fryer is used to pull the tray out of the machine. It has handles so one can effortlessly open and close the air fryer. The drawer is also made of steel, aluminum, and non-sticking chemicals.
- Air fryer main unit: The most significant part of an air fryer is its main unit which is made of several materials. The outer body is stainless steel coated with rust-resistant chemicals. The inner body is also made of steel and aluminum as well as there is a fan made of metal plastic.
Washing Air Fryer in a Dishwasher
As we have seen, the majority of the components of the air fryer are made of metal. However, there can be different models which possess unique components but it depends on the type of machine you use. Majority of the people use air fryers made of these major brands and each comes with a manual.
- Cosori air fryer: The Cosori air fryer is widely used by people in Europe due to the machine’s durability. Cosori has been manufacturing air fryers for years. We can wash the Cosori air fryer tray and drawer in a dishwasher but the manufacturer recommends cleaning the main unit with hands.
- Philips air fryer: Philip is the most famous manufacturer in the market of kitchen appliances. Philips recommends its users to not wash the main unit in the dishwasher. However, we can clean the basket and drawer in the dishwasher.
- Ninja Air Fryer: The last most used air fryer in Europe and Asia is manufactured by Ninja. Ninja air fryers are known for their several removable parts. We can wash all the removable parts in a dishwasher but when it comes to the main unit, hand wash is recommended.
How to Wash an Air Fryer?
Majority of the people are unfamiliar with the proper method to wash an air fryer. If we do not clean the air fryer from time to time, it can affect the quality of food as well as it impacts the performance of the air fryer. Additionally, cleaning an air fryer without proper instructions can ruin your machine so do not advance forward without expert guidance.
Step 1
Take the manual of the air fryer and read it carefully whether you should use the dishwasher to clean the air fryer or not. Some air fryers are unique and we should not advance forward without understanding their components’ structure. If you are using an air fryer from the manufacturer mentioned above, you can use a dishwasher so start the washing process by unplugging the fryer.
Step 2
Now remove all the components one by one reading the manual. You may need a screwdriver to remove the parts of the air fryer so take the basket out of the air fryer and then remove the tray. Rinse these components under warm water until all the particles of the meals you cooked in the fryer are removed.
Step 3
Take the basket and tray out of the warm water and leave for 5 minutes until you find that they are properly dried. Turn the dishwasher on and place both components on the upper rack. Avoid crowding the surroundings of air fryer components with other utensils.
Step 4
Use mild detergent and then start washing. Click on the normal cycle and wait until the components are fully washed. While the components are in the dishwasher, take the main unit and hand wash it properly without pouring excessive amounts of water on the electrical unit.
Step 5
While you wash the main unit, the dishwasher will complete its cleaning process so take the components out and leave them in open air until they are dried. Assemble the components when they are fully dried and turn on the air fryer to see if it is properly working.
A dishwasher reduces the required effort to clean the kitchen appliances but it can damage utensils if we do not carefully use them. Therefore, always read the manual of kitchen appliances before you start washing its components. Do not assemble the air fryer until its components are dried and turn it on to check if it is working properly.
