Prepare Your Pie FillingIn this recipe, I am preparing steak from scratch; however, if you do not want to go through the hassle of making steak you can go for frozen steak pies. There are multiple grocery stores out there that offer frozen steak pies. Now, back to the pie filling.Take out a pot, heat it over medium-high heat and add onions and oil. Saute until onions become translucent. Then stir in ginger and garlic paste, cooking for a few seconds before adding steak.Next, combine steak with Worcestershire sauce, chili flakes, green chilies, and vinegar. Reduce heat and simmer until any released water evaporates. If the steak remains tough, add a small amount of water and continue cooking until it dries up.
Red Pepper SauceNext, use a blender, or if you don’t have one use a blender stick, combine red pepper, sour cream, salt, tomato paste, and ½ cup of water. Blend until the mixture becomes smoother without any lumps.
Pour the Mixture into the SteakOnce prepared, add the red pepper sauce to the steak in the pot. Cook for as long as any excess liquid reduces. Optionally, use a blending stick to roughly blend the mixture until the ends.
Filling and Sealing the PastryPlace a portion of the prepared filling onto one-half of each pastry round or square, leaving space around the edges. Moisten the edges of the pastry with water to help create a seal. Fold the pastry over the filling to enclose it completely.Next, beat an egg in the small bowl and use a pastry brush to gently coat the top of each pastry with the beaten egg. This will give them a beautiful golden-brown color when baked.Sprinkle sesame seeds evenly on the top of each pastry. This step adds flavor and visual appeal to the finished pies.
Preheat the Air Fry and Final BakingSet your air fryer to 200°C using the bake function and allow it to preheat for a few minutes while you prepare the pies. Once the air fryer is preheated, carefully place the assembled pies into the air fryer basket. Then lower the temperature to 160°C and allow the pies to bake for 10 minutes. This initial lower temperature helps ensure the filling cooks evenly without burning the pastry. After the initial 10 minutes, increase the temperature back to 200°C and continue baking for another 5 - 7 minutes. This higher temperature at the end helps crisp up the pastry and gives the pie a golden-brown finish. After baking, your steak pies are ready to serve. You can pair them with fresh salad, steamed vegetables, or mashed potatoes. You can pair these delicious and crispy pies with any dish you desire.
